Life in the City: DC DMV

On Tuesday, I went to the Brentwood DMV in NE DC. If you need to go to the DC DMV, here are a few words of advice: Don't go to Brentwood. The facility is woefully undersized. We spent an hour in the line outside to enter the building. An hour. Outside. Standing up. In the mid-day heat. Once inside the building, it took another half-hour to transact our business.

Where have the Butterflies Gone?

Yesterday I saw a beautiful butterfly sitting on the orange petals of a flower. As this lovely, yellow and black creature flew away, I thought about how rarely I see butterflies around DC. I looked for butterflies as I went about the rest of my day. I saw none. Is anyone else seeing butterflies around here? Or I am the only one who is missing them?

Disgraceful Behavior in the Name of Peace

On a radio broadcast I heard today, the widow of a soldier who fell in Iraq described her husband's funereal. She said that anti-war protesters showed up, but she was grateful to God that they decided not to protest. While I'm very much pro-peace, the thought of people protesting at a soldier's funereal is disgraceful and sickening. Protesting at a soldier's funereal is unpatriotic. How can Americans show so little respect for the people who have died to protect our freedom to protest and our many other freedoms. How could Americans how so little respect for a grieving family, for the wife who has lost her husband, and the small children who are now without a father. Such shameful behavior does not further the cause of peace.
