Heard on the Forums: Is Your Yard Sign Missing?
This post is from the Brookland Yahoo Group.
"Has anyone (Fenty supporters) noticed their, and their neighbors Fenty signs being stolen off their lawn ? It's real nutty. We still won't change how we'llvote in a few months. W.M. III"
May your yard be safe. dc gal

Puzzling Yard Sign on Newton Street
While yard signs are popping up everywhere this election year, the most puzzling one so far is in on the 1000 block of Newton Street NE. It reads 'Keep County Judge Devlin'. Since DC neither elects judges or has counties, what's the story behind that sign. If you know, please dish in a comment.

Basements and Attics: Two Levels of Bliss
Gary Imhoff over at www.dcwatch.com asked for submissions to that site about what makes living in DC a joy. He posted my entry (repeated below) about Basements and Attics. Now I've already gotten an e-mail asking where it's located. Answer: 3217 12th Street, NE. Now here's the from themail at dcwatch.com.
***
Last year several interesting shops opened up in Brookland. The new offerings include a coffee shop, a home accessories place, and my favorites: furniture resale store Basements and Attics and an art gallery, Roxanne’s Artiques (yes, “artiques” — it’s not a typo). What’s fun about Basement and Attics is that the merchandise changes constantly. I’ve been several times since they opened a few months ago and it’s never the same store twice. On a recent visit I saw a marble dining room table, a Grecian key patterned drapery panel, a cedar wardrobe, and a glass bowl shaped like a flower. For those folks like me who enjoy vintage furniture perhaps a little too much, Basements and Attics is two levels of bliss.***
Any questions about the store? Please kindly direct them to www.basementsandattics.com.

Wizards win with new starting line-up
Michael Ruffin and Calvin Booth started in place of Brendan Haywood and Antawn Jamison in tonight's win over the Atlanta Hawks.
In his post-game press conference, coach Eddie Jordan wouldn't say if he would keep the new starting line up for Friday's game.
Thinking of coach Jordan, why is there of talk in some circles of firing Eddie Jordan? This is the same coach who last season led this team to its first winning playoff series in over TWENTY YEARS. He's earned the opportunity to show what he can do with the rest of the season.
Parting question: When will see Jared Jeffries make two 3-pointers in the same game again?

New Website Focuses on Columbia Heights
New website Columbia Heights News aims to be a "one-stop source for news and information" for that community. The site is elaborate and well-organized. There's a community message board, neighborhood history, real estate information and much more. The "news" is thin today, but one expects that content will be beefed up soon given the name of the site. One question is who is providing this community service. The about page doesn't say. Well, whoever you are, good job.
