Brookland CDC's annual public meeting

The Brookland CDC's annual public meeting was well-attended. People were going in an out but at times there were more than 35 people in the room. Since the meeting ran for about 2 hours (not including the half-hour reception at the beginning), we're not doing a summary. We'll talk about what we found interesting.

Mary Farrell, who was serving as interim Executive Director until an executive director was appointed this month, talked about upcoming fundraising events. She said that this year the CDC plans to have its annual festival, a golf tournament and possibly a run.

The new Executive Director Lee Alexander gave brief remarks about her looking forward to working with the community and the board.

During his report on economic vitality Richard Layman said that after 40 years of neglect, we can't expect DC neighborhoods to be revitalized overnight.

Board member Lisa Farrell said the CDC had received $300,000 in neighborhood investment funding to improve the 12th street commercial area.

President Lavinia Wohlfarth said the CDC will be hiring additional staff in the fall. The CDC's 2005 annual report which details its finances was distributed near the end of the meeting.
